Barrington Place Elementary Welcomes Students Back After Major Renovation

RDLR Architects is proud to announce the completion of the renovation and environmental remediation of Barrington Place Elementary, a cornerstone of the Fort Bend ISD community since 1990.

In June 2022, the discovery of non-airborne mold prompted the temporary closure of the campus for the 2022–23 school year. Students were relocated to nearby schools while RDLR Architects worked closely with Fort Bend ISD to fast-track a comprehensive renovation that would ensure the safety, comfort, and long-term usability of the building.

The revitalized school features a renewed interior, a secure new entry vestibule, a new gym addition, and enhanced site improvements. Five classrooms have been converted into modern collaboration spaces, restrooms have been fully upgraded, and a new stage now anchors the school’s shared spaces. Outside, improvements include ADA-compliant visitor parking, a redesigned drop-off drive and canopy, a new perimeter fence, and a new access road around the campus.

A major focus of the project was improving indoor air quality. Portions of the air conditioning system were upgraded, new air intake units were retrofitted to existing air handlers, and all ductwork was thoroughly cleaned. Environmental remediation removed mold from drywall and duct insulation to ensure a healthy learning environment.

To meet the urgent timeline, the project was delivered through two fast-tracked design packages—one for interior selective demolition and one for exterior demolition and new construction—allowing work to begin quickly while final designs were completed.

With these upgrades, Barrington Place Elementary is once again ready to welcome students and families, offering a safer, healthier, and more inspiring place to learn.
