PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As part of the comprehensive renovation of Burnett Bayland Park, RDLR Architects is leading the architectural design of a series of welcoming, multifunctional shade structures that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of the Gulfton community.
Thoughtfully designed to provide generous shade and year-round comfort, these structures create flexible gathering spaces that support everyday park use while accommodating classes, community programs, cultural events, and informal interaction. Each element is conceived as both functional and inviting—encouraging connection, rest, and shared experiences within a safe and accessible environment.
Developed through a phased implementation approach, the project gradually enhances the park’s comfort, identity, and sense of place. Following deep community engagement and collaboration with Harris County Precinct 4 and local stakeholders, the reimagined park is being transformed into a signature regional destination—one that extends beyond recreation to serve as a true community connector.
From active play areas to serene natural spaces, the revitalization introduces new and upgraded amenities for children, families, athletes, and nature lovers alike. The result will be a welcoming, inclusive green space designed to inspire connection, wellness, and joy for generations to come.
