PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Located at 1507 Keene Street on the northeast quadrant of the IH 45 and IH 10 interchange, METRO’s new Maintenance of Way (MOW) Facility supports the maintenance of METRORail vehicles while improving operational efficiency, customer service, and resource allocation. The 2.69-acre site includes a 30,000-SF main building with a 3,500-SF shop, laydown yard, surface parking, and stormwater detention. On the constrained site, the building is strategically oriented to provide efficient heavy-vehicle access while maximizing space for laydown areas, staff parking, and warehouse storage.

The centralized facility significantly reduces travel and staging time required to complete maintenance and repairs while providing immediate access to essential equipment and materials. Consolidating inventory in one secure location also improves inventory control and allows valuable materials to be stored indoors.

Previously, employees were housed at multiple facilities throughout METRO’s service area, some of which lacked adequate space for additional staff. The MOW Facility brings the entire team together, allowing staff and supervisors to work from the same location and strengthening communication, coordination, and operational efficiency. The facility also enhances personnel safety by enabling employees to use on-site cranes and other equipment in place of manual vehicle loading.
