Pinkerton’s Barbecue Opens at Revitalized 59 Diner in Upper Kirby
Pinkerton’s Barbecue has officially opened its newest location at the historic 59 Diner site at 3801 Farnham Street, marking a major milestone for both the growing brand and one of Houston’s most recognizable landmarks. Located in the heart of Upper Kirby, the project transforms the former diner into a vibrant, modern barbecue destination while preserving the spirit and nostalgia of the original structure.
As the third Pinkerton’s location—joining the beloved Heights restaurant and the San Antonio outpost—the new space reflects the continued evolution of owner Grant Pinkerton’s craft. Rooted in Texas barbecue tradition, the restaurant features signature offset steel barrel pits alongside expanded cooking techniques, including whole-hog preparation inspired by regional influences from Mississippi and Tennessee. The result is a dynamic, full-scale barbecue experience that brings together tradition, innovation, and a passion for quality.
The design carefully balances old and new, honoring the character of the original diner while introducing updated materials, improved functionality, and an inviting atmosphere for guests. Thoughtful planning enhances circulation, dining experience, and operational efficiency, creating a space that feels both familiar and refreshed.
With its doors now open, Pinkerton’s Barbecue at the former 59 Diner stands as a successful adaptive reuse project—celebrating Houston’s culinary heritage while delivering a lively, community-focused destination for locals and visitors alike.
